Commitment of employees

What does it cost to have uncommitted employees?

Based on a Gallup survey a few years ago that measured employees’ involvement in companies in 142 countries, we know that on average it looked as follows.

An assumption that can be regarded as a rough estimate but not unreasonable could be that the productivity of unengaged employees is somewhere between 50-80% compared to the most motivated and engaged employees in the company. In the same way, one could reasonably assume that the tail seen in the survey as those that actively counteract (does more harm than good) delivers 10-25% in productivity compared to the most committed.

Given the above assumptions, the average company’s productivity / delivery capacity would then be between 47% - 70% of its theoretical max. Although it is not possible to translate this fully into what it costs the company, it gives a clue as to what the potential can be. Increased commitment therefore leads to higher productivity at the same wage cost. Labor costs are usually the company’s largest expense item.

In conclusion: It is worth investing in increased commitment to your organization..
